Switchman Training
Training in Your Real Operating Environment
Axiom Rail Services provides on-site switching training tailored to how your operation actually functions. Our approach is simple: we train your employees on the same equipment they use every day, on the same tracks and territory they operate on, and under the same conditions they encounter during normal production.

Facility-Based Instruction Using Your Equipment and Territory
Training is conducted at the customer’s facility and incorporates the locomotives, switching platforms, radio systems, and track configurations present on site. Employees are trained on real movements, real clearances, and real operational constraints rather than generic scenarios. This ensures the training translates directly to safer, more consistent performance in daily switching operations.

Axiom is able to integrate switching instruction into a customer’s existing workflow so that production downtime is not unnecessarily lost. On-the-job training activities are aligned with normal switching functions and scheduled work events, allowing employees to demonstrate competency while performing their assigned duties. This approach allows training objectives to
be met without removing crews from active operations or creating artificial training environments that do not reflect actual conditions.

Structured OJT with Measurable Performance Standards
Switching instruction is structured to support formal OJT documentation and program requirements. Tasks performed during training are tied to measurable performance standards and can be incorporated into the customer’s training records. This provides continuity between classroom concepts, field execution, and documented competency.
FRA-Aligned, Operationally Relevant Training Programs
All switching training delivered by Axiom is part of an FRA-approved training framework and is not generic rail safety training. Programs are developed with regulatory applicability in mind and are designed to withstand regulatory review. Customers are not left relying on off-the-shelf content or certificates that lack operational relevance or regulatory value.

Axiom routinely supports industrial rail operations, transload facilities, and short line environments where switching occurs in active production areas, constrained spaces, and time-sensitive conditions. Our goal is to improve switching safety, consistency, and accountability while allowing operations to continue efficiently
